As a new team, could we get some constructive criticism on our performance at A-Town Showdown (this was our first national competition).

Shoutout to ayeHipHopper for already giving us a great critique!

Thanks.

Round 1:

Make voice over clearer. Make sure everyone is in spot before music is cued (one guy was running to his spot. The opening move is good, but maybe make it into an explosion instead of just already being in formation. Good formation change during Dhinka, but the formation itself is not centered. Also, the girl who just kind of randomly goes into front center does a wink and then runs, it should be bigger I think. Cause when I saw it at first I thought she was just running off stage. I really like the level change though when the guys go down and kind of start popping, but make sure everyone pops the same way. Actually, the whole segment could look better, but just make sure everyone does moves the same way. Our problem at ATS was also cleanliness, so just work on that for the future.

Good formation change into dil dooba, but be a little careful, that effect you have at center with people jumping through windows looks almost exactly like what Delware Kamaal did at BA last year. Again for this segment, work on timing. I think the two people in the center hit their dip a few beats late when everyone had already started moving. Also I think the choreo is a little too easy. There are parts where you do these nice big flashy bollywood moves, but sometimes that goes away. One thing I've tried doing on Jalwa (specifically after the judges meeting at ATS) was trying to do hip hop choreo to bollywood songs. I know everyone will have different interpretations of what hip hop dancing is and what bollywood dancing is, but thats just my opinion.

For the opening of thug le make sure people complete their moves. Whenever you do a arc like move, make sure people do it with the same speed and power, cause otherwise it'll turn out badly. Also, just aesthetically, maybe do different color scheme for girls and guys. I find it helps make formations pop a lot better and also if you do a formation like you did in the beginning of thug le, it'll help the judge/audience be able to distinguish better. When I watched it I felt like it was just a bunch of people in red and gold and then hands doing movements, so unless that is the idea you were going for, maybe do different costumes. For the rest of thug le, I think the choreo is too easy, but as you build the team and train dancers, you'll be given more freedom to try new ideas and more difficult choreo, so I'm not too worried about that.
Only last thing for round one is that your ending pose is not very “bam”. It seems a bit confused with the one girl in the middle and the one girl all the way to the side and then the two guys doing something to the left. I'm not sure what is supposed to be the center of my focus. Also if you're going to hold up a sign, make it a lot bigger. At least from the camera angle the sign is barely readable.

Overall, I think you round one, having seen it live and online, needs to be cleaner, so that'll just take lots of practice. I think energy for the girls specifically needs to go way up, because it seemed as if though they were tired near the end of a two minute routine. Maybe add some more X-factor, like stunts or effects or really intricate hard hitting choreo. On the whole though, I liked it and think you guys have potential in the future!

Round 2:

Opening needs way more energy, both in terms of the dancers being more energetic and in terms of the choreo. Try choreoing to the beat of the song instead of the lyrics maybe? The song you guys used has such a hype beat that your dancing looked kind of out of place. Even if its slower, then make sure you do it cleanly and with more power.

The next song (guy vocals) the dancing made more sense with the beat. I liked the ripples and the tutting, but for the ripple make sure everyone hits it, because one girl in the last group missed it. For the tutting, maybe make it bigger moves, because it was hard to see at least with the dim lights. You could also make the angles and movements sharper and hit each time you complete a move. Also remember posture. Some peoples elbows dropped, so just make sure you standardize shoulders and elbow heights. Also, after the build up, I was kind of disappointed, because there was nothing explosive about the drop. It should have hit mad hard and done something crazy, like a cool effect or a stunt. The part with the X and the girl in the center was pretty cool, just make it cleaner and it could be an X-factor type of portion, I really like the idea.

Dho Dhaari was pretty cool (could be cleaner again) until after the stunt. I felt that after the stunt the dancing wasn't really matching the song as much and people seemed tired. Also the choreo didn't go to the beat of “everyday I'm shufflin”. I think in general you guys might want to try doing choreo to the beat instead of the lyrics. Ending was better than Round 1, but the dip seemed late.

Overall: Better than you Round 1. Lots of nice choreo ideas, specially the X in the guys vocal song and the beginning of Dho Dhaari. Just work on getting cleaner and more energetic. I think you guys should utilize the music better, like during the sick drop I mentioned before. Otherwise, you guys have lots of potential, so I can't wait to see you guys next year!

What about older stuff, like from a couple of years ago? This is a great place to post them. I think it's great to see how a team has grown.

Saatvik pretty much gave you a well critiqued response

Just general stuff that I see is synchronisity. Definately need to work on that along with energy. You can tell that some dancers have more energy and are putting more energy than others and you don't want that to show in a team. Your a team for a reason so everyone should be the same. It's tough to do but it'll make your performance look great.

Keeping your formations clean and smooth and keeing your formations in tact. Some formations you have others going from an odd postition to another odd position and it does look odd.

The specific one that was note worthy for me was at 2:16 everyone is stationary and then you have the girl in the back moving and making her way to the front doing the front..

Here are Badmaash's over the years:
2010) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dW_hezJMIE
2011) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W49nQHIQvek
2012) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9QtS_am ... e=youtu.be (definitely my favorite haha)

Sad I'm leaving this year :( :( But I would be curious to hear what people think are "missing" from our performance to make it 1st place worthy

Hey everyone,

I'm next years co-captain of the Bollywood team Tufaan. I was hoping to get some critiques on our most recent performance and see how we can improve for next year. Thanks in advance for taking time to help us out.

Much Love,
Sidd
