Lol damn someone clearly missed the point -_-...

Here is the point:  lol

Quote:
I see what you're saying, but there is a way to give a negative critique and then there is a way to give a negative critique. There is a difference between the following two, both which relay the same message, but in different ways:

"Team X, your bhangra is wack" message= your bhangra is bad.

"Team X, your bhangra needs work. I think you can work on adding more grace into the movements and make the moves more diverse. It seemed as if you guys repeated the same moves multiple times" message= your bhangra needs work.

Both are negative critiques, but the first one is not constructive and is just putting Team X down. The second one is negative but is at the same time guiding Team X towards how to make their bhangra better.

By no means should we all be sugar coating everything and saying every team deserved first place, but again, there are two ways to tell it how it is, and a lot of the time we hear the former rather than the latter.

I am bumping this thread because Desi Drama Teams is back. The main takeaway thus far has been restated by Jake above: instead of hating on teams, give constructive criticism. That is good. But the "Elite 8 Reviews" thread has brought up a few more issues I would like to address:

Ignore user "fmbandito." Upon looking at his posting history, it is clear that this user invokes incendiary rhetoric on a consistent basis. His posts should be disregarded, as he clearly does not understand the purpose of the DDT boards. Telling a team "they suck," and constantly referring to individual teams (in particular RU SAPA which has a great legacy) as "clowns" is offensive and unhelpful. In fact, I would ask moderators to send warnings and eventually ban users for posting such hateful comments.

With regard to the Wanted Ashiqz, we all love and look up to this team. They put their stamp on the desi dance circuit with their trademark hip hop/tutting, stunts, and girly sections. However, the main problem can be boiled down to this: WA should no longer be competing against undergraduate teams. Having said that, Elite 8 is an invitational based on team history so this was not their fault -- they did not apply for nor ask to be in Elite 8. It certainly seems as if they received preferential treatment, so a single apology or explanation from the organizers should suffice. In response to said preferential treatment, a user wrote "This is a disgrace to the fusion circuit, dance, and sportsmanship itself." That is inflammatory rhetoric. We do this a lot on forums and blow problems out of proportion. To illustrate my point, a thread entitled "Elite 8 reviews" has 27 posts, but only 3 reviews. A positive way to address WA at a competition is to have some team members (if possible) watch them perform. Learn from them and talk to them (they are really cool guys). I know we are very competitive, but at a certain point you have to sit back and appreciate the dancing you see.

As a whole, people should use the forums to review teams and give constructive criticism. Reviewing how a competition is run is definitely relevant, but personal attacks on a specific liaison should be taken up with the liaison himself, not with DDT. As dramatic South Asians, we have a tendency to let a few small incidents disrupt our enjoyment of an entire weekend, and that is really sad. Let's emphasize what brings us together -- a love of dance, performing, talent, creativity, and partying with others who share our passion for dance.

To be perfectly honest, sometimes, I read DDT to see what this clown has to say LOLL. Those posts are so hilarious, just because how stupid he sounds lol. Yo fmbandito, your signature should definitely have the tag line "you mad bro?" But no team should take this user seriously. He has no credibility and talks out of his ass. Fmbandito, you mad bro?

hell yeah i invoke incendiary rhetoric on a consistent basis. and i will continue too. i'm not a dancer - just good friends with a lot of them so i've learned to enjoy competitions over time.

and i could care less about giving critique. if you don't like what i have to say, then just skip over the comment. usually my comments are a consensus of what most people think. except i don't care about their feelings and am pretty straight forward.

captainmorgan, i didn't miss the point. i just don't give a damn. pretty simple.

royalflush, naa dude, i aint mad. LOLL.
