I think the DDT Awards need to be a physical event. Like a black tie event at a banquet or something. There's rumors that DDT is putting together a summer mixer. I think that should just be turned into a DDT Award ceremony. And only teams who won something would be invited. It may be difficult from teams who are far away but it would be so cool to have a physical event. Granted this takes away people being able to participate via online video submissions.

Who do you think will win this year's awards? Mainly Best Dance Team, Best Event, and Life Time Achievements.

DDT Awards are coming up, who do you think will win??

Also, I'm hearing rumors that DDT's Summer Mela idea will now become a DDT Award show instead. That's freaking legit. It'll be our filmfare award or oscars. Anyone know anymore information about this? The only thing that sucks is that if it's on the east coast (i pressume) west coast teams won't be able to come.

Vice versa if it's on the west coast right? it'll be interesting to see where they choose to hold it/why.

lol, I think that DDT will only ever hold things on the east coast, because the people who run DDT are form the East Coast. From having talked to a few of them personally, they are trying to transition into the next stage of life, and as such doing a huge show or exhibition or award ceremony on the West Coast would probably be totally out of the question. Not only would it be hard because they aren't plugged in to the community/how things work, but as far as travel and logistics, if you're from the East Coast, specially NJ or NY, its easiest to organize in your home state.

wow, news travels really fast. As some of you know, we were planning a Summer Mela with tons of exhibition performances (at least 16 teams). But after talking to members of the community, while they love performing, they rather have something more "chill". Also the fact many members of many teams will be dispersed. A physical DDT Award has crossed our mind and it's going to one of many segments of the event were are working on putting together, if we do this. Meaning, the event will be multi-segment and one of the segment will be the DDT Awards (with trophies).

Location is key. It would absolutely be in NJ. I'm from here, I understand and can work the logistics better here. We are no stranger to doing events outside of NJ, but those are usually co-hosted with other groups. This event most likely will be held by DDT, with volunteers from the community. So therefore, it'll be in NJ. Which has a high abundance of affordable, reliable, public transportation. We're trying to make it as simple as possible for out-of-state teams since many of them expressed interest. We're also going to keep it closer towards NYC so teams can explore NYC after. Maybe next year, if another organization is willing to co-host with us, we can do it in another city. But i don't see many organization being interested in hosting the DDT Awards. Plus having it in my home state, i have more access to my resources (vendors, djs, photographers, staff, etc). The Tri-State, Philly, CT, Del-Mar-VA area collectively already have over 100 teams, so you can expect it to be packed.

We're also trying to make the event afford for attendees. Which limits a lot of things. We understand you already spent fortunes going to competitions throughout the years. But you will only get out what you put in. That's something you have to understand. But we'll do our best to make it as grand as possible. Hopefully at the ATS/NNR level.

We'd also want to do it around June. It'd be after graduation for most and not deep into the summer to ruin your summer plans. Also, i'm hella busy in July-October lol.

If you like to give your two cents and engage in a more indpeth discussion regarding the event, you can do so by emailing us or post on the TEAMS ONLY forums. More detail will soon be posted in the Teams Only forums. We'd also be looking for volunteers and board members once things are more solid.

PS - get you applications in for the DDT Awards soon. Deadline May 5th. Then you'll be sent the nominee application to sign up for the categories. Afterwards you'll be given the ballots to vote.

DDT has a lot more supporters and gets more love from the west coast. That reason alone should be why it's should be in the west coast. More specifically, California. Hollywood! I'm sure all your friends on Nashaa, Zor, and Zamana would gladly help :)

I can't wait to see who the winners would be this year. So many talented teams and dancers. It's really anyone's game. Although I feel like a lot of the categories that are in Bollywood America would be overlapped into DDT Awards. But then again, DDT Awards includes more than teams at BA. But I can see Zor cleaning house. It'll also be interesting to see the battles of the DJ's for best mix. 2nyce, sanjoy, sri, and other talent mixers.

I don't know who LTA would go too. Last two winners were legit, JB, and SRK Jr. The winner this year is more luckily since they get presented at a banquet.

Which brings up a good point. If the DDT Awards is a physical event this year, does this mean no video presentation like previous years. Those were fun. And will there be a live broadcast of the physical event.

Random concept idea. It would be interesting if BA and the DDT awards was all one weekend. Since so many former dancers and other teams travel down for Bollywood America each and every year, it would be cool if BA was held earlier in the day (say 4-7) and the DDT Awards was treated somewhat like a formal after party banquet featuring these presenters and awards. In my mind it makes the most sense to have this award ceremony as close to BA as possible since it is championship weekend. Winners who won and were not able to make it would create video acceptance videos that would be presented at the show, like in other award shows.

Now of course, this is a massive endeavor and requires a lot of capital and support but hey, with the rate this circuit is expanding and the form of dance is permeating through popular culture, it isn't all that farfetched.

Co-sign!

Although we do have the "community" dancers, we certainly DO NOT have the industry dancers connected to the community. I love W.O.D. (World of Dance) Award ceremony logistics. Hopefully DDT will reach that point.

Haha, I suggested a physical event in the first post. I think they should do it. It would be legit. Doing the DDT Awards after BA would not work since lots of teams use their BA performance for review in the nominees.

I applaud DDT for taking the efforts to bring us something like this. But realistically, this wouldn't work. We're all college students and we're all broke. We've all spent countless hundreds on going to competitions and what not, no one would have the money to travel and come to this event. But there are enough teams in the NJ/NY area alone that you can still pack out, but I assume, that's not what you are going for is it? Everyone is also pretty unreliable with commitment, so you would get tons of people backing out due to other summer engagement. I have no doubt in my mind that this event would probably be better than all the dance competitions combined (based on the information I received regarding the event) but my question is that are people going to go?

I'm not trying to burst any bubbles here. I think this is an amazing idea and MUCH NEEDED. It's a great way to celebrate the end of our season, our hard work, our struggles, our wins with others in the community. Even more exciting is that you can do it with team members of other styles (bhangra, raas, etc). A stress-free environment of not having to worry about prop issues and performing the next day. So I honestly believe an event like this is needed. I know seniors would LOVE this. I just hope enough people support this because this is the start of something remarkable. This can basically be our "senior proms", with awards lol. I really want this to happen, and I'm hoping more people support this. I hope people in this community understand that this scene is more than cash prizes, trophies, and bids.

I've seen WOD's award ceremony and it's not that grand. It just has people that support the idea. That's why it's successful. I'm sure ours community can do a lot better. Our competitions are already a lot more grand than their competitions (in terms of production and coordination). So let's make this happen! DDT AWARDS 2012 LIVE!!

That's basically how we saw it and why we want to do it. It's not for us, it's for you guys. It's a lot less of a headache for me doing this all online lol. We hope to receive all your support and hope you all can do what you can to attend.

I think combining BA with DDT Awards would be a phenomenal idea. Maybe have a Sunday banquet-style lunch to cap off the dance season. It would be a great way not only to honor dance teams, but also to talk and hang out with dancers/organizers when no one is stressed about a performance.

Just talked to all the Jalwa people, and since most of us are from NY/NJ/MA we're pretty down for this awards. Hope other people come! Would be mad fun since I think we've met/competed with all the East coast teams quite a bit! I'm sure other BU teams would be happy to come too!

See you all there

We will not combine BA and DDT Awards simply because DDT Award isn't just for fusion teams. It's for the entire community. Raas, Classical, and Acappella included. Coordination would be more difficult doing it in whatever city BA chooses. I don't want the logistics of our location dependent on them. That's terrible planning lol.

I look forward to seeing Jalwa attend and thanks for the support. So far also hear positive feedback from WA, EuphorEk, and UMBC Raascals to name a few. We hope to get things solidify in the next two weeks (or sooner). We'll do our best to make it easily accessible to out-state-teams.
